Monday Motivation - Shaping The Bonsai
Growing a bonsai tree was popular when I was a kid, probably because cool Mr. Miyagi from The Karate Kid cared for a bonsai tree.
Monday (or Wednesday!) Motivation - Earn A Badge
This Saturday, we will run and raise money for a wonderful and local Fulshear charity: Annabelle's Amazing Graces. You can learn more and register here: Doing More For Others.
Monday Motivation - Show up... People Need You!
Later today, we will have multiple athletes receive an email from CrossFit Headquarters that they have made it past the CrossFit Open and into the Quarterfinals. To move on to the Semifinals, these athletes must perform 4-5 workouts from April 17-22. From April 17-22, our normal class programming will be these required workouts.
Monday Motivation - This Saturday... Minute to Win It!
Congratulations to everyone who completed the last CrossFit Open workout 24.3! After three weeks of workouts, every team led one week of scoring. Team GOLD led the first week with thirteen (13) participants, Team RED led the second week with eighteen (18), and Team BLUE led the third week with eleven (11) participants. Someone with a watchful eye may notice that Team RED won week 2. My email from last incorrectly identified the wrong team as the winner. Team RED won last week.
Monday Motivation - Gratitude and Solutions
Today's email is a day late because I drove my family to a Florida beach for eleven hours. If you know me and Celesta well, you know we did not waste this opportunity. We listened to a couple of books. One of the books was "The No Complaining Rule" by Jon Gordon. There are two types of complaints: useless and useful.
Monday Motivation: We Care (Because You Care)
Do you realize you have a team of coaches who dedicate their lives to serving you as best as possible?
My objective for this team is to "Deliver a personalized experience based on the Five Love Languages to everyone on the Enneagram." Next week, I will lead them through a 10-week course on how to serve you best no matter where your personality falls on the Enneagram scale.
Monday Motivation - Counting Our Blessings
Happy Monday, Blue Eagle!
Let us count our blessings as we enter this Christmas and holiday season.
Happiness is relative. It can be easy to be unhappy when we compare what we don't have to what others do have: a bigger house, a fancier car, or more parties to attend.
But we can also compare our lives to how people lived in the past.
Monday Motivation - Are Your Worries & Complaints Serving You?
Yesterday afternoon, the final four college football teams, who will play for the national title, were announced. Florida State was left out of the final four despite going undefeated and winning their conference championship. The University of Georgia was left out even though they have lost only once in their last thirty games.
Monday Motivation - Hope Will Not Change Your Life, but Habits Will
We often find solace in the comforting embrace of hope. It's the flickering light at the end of a dark tunnel, the whisper of better days to come. However, hope, while an essential motivator, remains a passive force, unable to bring about tangible change.
Motivation Monday - Who Are You Influencing?
This weekend, Celesta was out of town, so I took my three daughters to watch my oldest swim at a meet in The Woodlands. We drove an hour, dropped off Kaeli, then I spent an hour with my two youngest for them to eat an early dinner. After they ate, we went to the natatorium to watch Kaeli swim, which took about another hour. When Kaeli was changed and dry, we went to a restaurant for her and me to eat dinner. Our dinner took another hour.
Forgive yourself. Keep moving forward
My 15-year-old daughter had her end-of-season water polo tournament this weekend in Dallas. Her coach is a former Olympic water polo player and still represents the USA in the over-35 water polo tournaments all over the world.
Her #1 most important piece of advice is mental: get over your mistakes quickly and move on!
Motivation Monday - Filling Your Feed
I write these Motivation Monday emails to encourage you as you start your week. I often need motivation myself... or at least reminders that life is not supposed to be rainbows and unicorns every day.
Monday Motivation - Thank You for Your Generosity!
This past Saturday, we celebrated life and raised money for a wonderful organization called Stuff the Sleigh. Thanks to your generosity, we raised almost $3,700. This money will go to helping kids with cancer and their families.
Monday Motivation - Be a Person Who Gives
This Saturday, August 19, at 9 AM, we will be hosting a fundraiser supporting the local charity, Stuff the Sleigh. This is the perfect opportunity to have fun with other members, friends, family, and neighbors. Read our blog post to learn more and get registered.
Monday Motivation - What's Your "Why?"
Here are my Why's...
I work to provide a place that helps people live longer, happier, and healthier lives in a world of chronic diseases (obesity, heart disease, and cancer) in Fulshear, Katy, and Brookshire.
I work to provide my community with a place that feels welcoming in a world that tries to divide us.
I work to show my kids you can be the change other people need in their lives.
What is your why?
Monday Motivation - Following the Process
Some days are hard days. Hards days when the results we are getting don't meet our expectations. On these days, I think of this quote, "Quitters quit while winners show grit."
Grit is continuing to follow the process even when the end results are not yet what we want them to be. I follow Justin Su'a, psychologist and head mental trainer for several sports teams, on Instagram. He also has an amazing podcast called "Increase Your Impact," with episodes that are only a couple of minutes long.
Monday Motivation - Teaching & Guiding
This weekend I got to spend some alone time with my 7-year-old daughter. There are not a lot of things we liked to do together. Swimming is one of them but it was waaaayyyyy too hot. Instead, we opted to play a game: Guess Who?
Monday Motivation - When Was the Last Time I Failed?
Are you taking the shots in your life? A quick little way to test if you are stepping out of your comfort zone is to ask yourself, "When was the last time I failed?" Failing can be hard and humbling. But failing leads to growth. It leads to empathy. And our world needs more empathy.
I would love to hear your story about the last you stepped out, took a chance, and failed. And what you learned. And how you grew.
Monday Motivation - How to Become Our Best Selves
My "who" and my "why" are these: I want to be the best version of myself that I can be to inspire others, especially my daughters, to live lives full of passion.
Monday Motivation - Wake up!
Wake up.
Show up.
Be present.
Give it everything you’ve got.
