Monday Motivation - Gratitude and Solutions

Happy Monday (Tuesday), Blue Eagle!

Today's email is a day late because I drove my family to a Florida beach for eleven hours. If you know me and Celesta well, you know we did not waste this opportunity. We listened to a couple of books. One of the books was "The No Complaining Rule" by Jon Gordon. There are two types of complaints:
useless and useful.

The book encourages us to replace useless complaining with gratitude and useful complaints with solutions. When it comes to solutions, I like the 1:3:1 method: identify one problem, brainstorm three potential solutions, and choose one to pursue.

Last week, I interviewed our very own
Dr. Maria DeFranco. Listen to the podcast to learn how to treat your chronic pain better and live a more physically comfortable life. My useful complaint is that I did not live up to my intention of educating you on how to activate your glutes throughout the day. Maria is an expert in helping clients to move their bodies effectively throughout the day. My solution is not just to interview Maria again but to come better prepared with at least ten specific questions related to glute activation/daily movements.

Gratitude comes easier, probably because my mind likes to complain uselessly.

  • I did not participate in Friday Night Lights because my calf tightened up right as I was practicing my double-enders (complaint) -> I am grateful we had an *AMAZING* night on Friday with lots of inspiring performances.

  • I got only 4 double-enders in Open Workout 24.2 (useless compliant) -> I am grateful I am not a professional athlete

Speaking of Friday Nights and Open Workout 24.2, Team BLUE showed up! After scoring only 36 points in week 1, Team BLUE scored 59 points in week 2 with eighteen (EIGHTEEN!) athletes doing the workout. Showing up is the best thing you can do to earn points for your team! :)

Team Scores (Total Points after 24.2)
1st -
Team BLUE = 108
2nd -
Team GOLD = 105
3rd -
Team RED = 101

Our next event will be Sunday, March 17, at 2 PM. You can also do the workout in every class on Friday. We will have our regular Friday schedule with classes at 5 AM, 6 AM, 8:30 AM, 12 Noon, 4:30 PM, and 5:30 PM.

More information will be posted on our blog,
What is the CrossFit Open? on Thursday afternoon after the workout is announced at 2 PM. You can read about last week's results: March Forth!
