Monday Motivation - Following the Process

Happy Monday, Blue Eagle!

Some days are hard days. Hards days when the results we are getting don't meet our expectations. On these days, I think of this quote, "Quitters quit while winners show grit."

Grit is continuing to follow the process even when the end results are not yet what we want them to be. I follow Justin Su'a, psychologist and head mental trainer for several sports teams, on Instagram. He also has an amazing podcast called "Increase Your Impact," with episodes that are only a couple of minutes long.

This was his quote today,

"Part of embracing the process is understanding that no matter how focused you are or how hard you work, you can't force how fast the results come. Manage your emotions as things unfold, when results aren't lining up with your expectations, keep focusing on what you can control."

I wish you could get a promotion three months after starting work at a new company. I wish you could lose every excess pound that you want to lose as soon as you want to lose it. Unfortunately, life is not always as quick as we want it to be.

What I have learned is that doing the little things as best as I can will eventually give me the results I want. When those results aren't coming fast enough, there are a couple of reasons for it:

  1. I am not as consistent with doing the little things as much as I think I am.

  2. I was farther away from my goal than I thought, so it's going to take longer to get to my goal than I originally anticipated.

In either scenario, I stick to the process. In scenario #1, I look for gaps in how I can better follow the process. In scenario #2, I wait patiently for the results I want.

In our "instant gratification" culture, lots of us are with you if you feel impatient. :)  I hope this message provides some perspective.

Enjoy the week!
