What Is the CrossFit Open?
The CrossFit Open began in 2011 as a bold idea: a worldwide online competition where athletes could complete workouts in their hometown gyms, parks, or even at home and submit their scores online. Whether it’s a first pull-up, muscle-up, or hitting new personal records, the Open inspires and celebrates growth.
Yes! You Can Do It!
The Open is designed to be accessible to everyone, regardless of fitness level. It consists of three workouts over three weeks. Each workout is released on Thursdays at 12 p.m. PT, and scores must be submitted by the following Monday at 5 p.m. PT. Athletes are grouped into divisions based on age, gender, and abilities:
RX'd - Do the workouts as written. This is the most challenging option, yet many individuals have moved from scaled to Rx’d as they progress from year to year.
Scaled - Not quite ready to tackle the workouts as written? No problem. The scaled division offers classic scaling options for many of CrossFit’s common gymnastics movements and includes lighter loading.
Foundations—Have you just started CrossFit, or is this your first Open? The foundations workouts are a great place to start.
Whether you’re new to CrossFit or a seasoned athlete, there’s a way for you to join in.
Test Yourself
One of the ways we get better is by testing ourselves periodically. The CrossFit Open is an annual event to see how our fitness has progressed. The energy and support during the Open are unmatched, reminding us we’re part of something bigger than ourselves. For some, it’s a way to rekindle their competitive spirit. For others, it’s simply a way to celebrate progress and stay motivated for the year ahead.
If you’re hesitant to participate, remember that you don’t have to be “fit enough” or at your peak performance. The Open is about showing up, trying your best, and having fun. The workouts are similar to those you already do in class, and the supportive atmosphere will help you overcome any doubts.
