Forever Fierce at Blue Eagle Makes Fitness Fun for Seniors

Most people do not mind getting older, but no one wants to feel old.  The best way to avoid feeling old is through a combination of eating right and exercising.  Proper exercise should be a combination of movement and strength training.  Life after 65 can be tough staying active, especially for people looking for a community of seniors.  But the benefits of being active may include prevention of chronic diseases, stress relief, better balance control, more strength, and prolonged independence.

The belief in CrossFit is that the needs of senior adults and Olympic athletes differ by degree, not kind.  By this we mean that anyone can do CrossFit, and everyone should do it, even as we age into people who have less strength, stamina, and flexibility than we had earlier in life.  When applied with the right adjustments, CrossFit is a potent method for training everyone, especially seniors, by unlocking a number of health benefits and pushing off the loss of functional capacity that diminishes quality of life.  Learn more at www.CrossFit.com.

Fortunately, there is an easy way to stay active in a community of other seniors.  The class is coached by Clancie Harbers, who originally designed the class for her parents, Trent & Liz, “I wanted to design something to keep my 70-something parents moving.  They both have had knee replacements, in addition to that, my dad has had back surgery and suffers from neuropathy in his feet.  I knew the class needed to offer modified options so they could both participate.  Six months into the program, they are both experiencing better mobility, balance and strength!”

There are two main goals of the class.  The first is to help our seniors live longer, happier, and healthier, lives. The second is to build a community full of empathy, encouragement, and friendship among seniors in Fulshear, Simonton, and the surrounding area.

Al Schorken, has been in Forever Fierce for three years and recently celebrated his 90th birthday.  Mr. Schorken believes Clancie’s goals are being accomplished, “I joined CrossFit to improve my flexibility, endurance, and strength.  What I got was tailored to my abilities and instructors who gave me individual attention.  I have also met new friends while making progress on my goals.”

Linda wanted to improve her health, strength and balance, “I feel stronger since coming to Forever Fierce at Blue Eagle.  The instructors adapt to our abilities and encourage us to go to the next level.”

Clancie coaches because she loves to encourage people to be their best and celebrate with them when they reach new heights.  Her goal is to motivate people to retrain their brains, that is, to do more than they think they can.  She wants to teach people to breathe better, move faster, and use their bodies to grow in strength daily as God intended.  Her advice is to not waste the time you have been given because life is short and God has abundant life out there for you. (John 10:10)

During Forever Fierce, , music from the 50s, 60s, and 70s, is played while athletes get their hearts pumping, muscles moving, and spirits lifted.  An added benefit is that all workouts are done under air-conditioning.  ☺
